My Bookish Crate Unboxing

Today I finally received my first ever YA subscription box from My Bookish Crate! The January theme is Music and Monsters and was perfect for fans of Beauty and the Beast and Fantastic Beasts, as they advertised. I came home from university to find this sitting on my dining room table and it’s been the cure I needed after a stressful week.

Warning: This post is spoiler filled, do not read if you are still waiting for your box.

img_5645First of all, the box is absolutely huge and filled to the brim with goodies covered by tissue paper – “all the feels in a box” was certainly the right way to describe it. I’ve never been so excited to delve into cardboard. This month’s book is ‘Roseblood’ by A.G. Howard, a retelling of Phantom of the Opera. The cover is so beautiful yet mysterious, with a mix of roses and overgrown thorns. This was accompanied by a letter from the author which was a nice, personal touch. Howard is clearly very passionate about this book, which makes me want to read it even more! I am only familiar with the story from the popular musical, so it will be an interesting read. Gothic is not a genre I read often (after a traumatic experience with Wuthering Heights at school, ha!) but I always appreciate the linguistic techniques involved. This feels like the perfect book to branch out and try something other than my usual fantasy fiction.

Now, onto the gifts! The first thing that caught my eye was a tiny Funko Pop! keychain of the one and only Newt Scamander. Not only am I obsessed with Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts but I adore Eddie Redmayne too, so I spent a long time squealing over this. Next, I picked up the candle from Book & Nook. Verity is exclusive for My Bookish Crate and is inspired by This Savage Song, which I haven’t read, but it has a very fresh and fruity smell and is topped with red glitter inside. Another favourite gift of mine is the Beauty and the Beast mug. The design is beautiful and it perfectly fits the theme of the box and book included.

Also in the box is a set of four posters to colour, inspired by Phantom of the Opera and Beauty and the Beast, with a set of 12 colouring pencils, and an art print with a Phantom quote.

This box was the perfect theme for me to start with, feeding my Disney, Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts, and musical obsession. I am so impressed with the amount of goodies included and they are all incredible quality; this box is definitely worth the money. I look forward to reading a new and exciting YA novel and hopefully reviewing it here. I would definitely recommend My Bookish Crate for all you bookish gals and guys. Happy reading!
