It’s time for December’s Top 5 Tuesday and we’re kicking off with Top 5 Cosy Winter Reads! Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm is doing this for the first three weeks of December this month, so be sure to check out her post detailing why and what each topic is. I always think winter is the perfect time to cosy up with a book. The early evenings, hot chocolate and snuggly blankets are all itching to be paired with a new novel. I normally seem to read fantasy books in winter, but I have some great contemporary YA and general books that are just perfect Cosy Winter Reads. Let’s check out my list for some fuzzy and warm books!
- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – C.S. Lewis
The Chronicles of Narnia are the perfect winter read, especially The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Not only is this tale based around religion and the story of Christ, which can’t really get any more Christmassy, it’s also so much fun. It feels so wintery and cosy with the Pevensie children disappearing into a magical wardrobe only to find themselves in the snowy Narnia. This is such a fun and easy read for cold winter nights. And you can even watch them film once you’ve read the books!
- Fangirl – Rainbow Rowell
Sometimes you just need to reach for a cheesy YA to warm your heart on the cold nights. Fangirl is a relatable story of an anxious teenager detailing her journey through university and her first romance. This is another fun and easy read that you will just speed through after you’ve fallen in love with the characters.
- Bridget Jones’s Diary – Helen Fielding
I can’t think of a cosy winter read that’s more perfect than the Bridget Jones Series. This book is laugh out loud hilarious and will make you feel so good. Even if you speed through the first book there’s more Bridget humour to follow in the series, and you can’t forget the iconic films! This is a cheesy and fun read that will have your back throughout any winter sadness.
- The Hobbit – J.R.R. Tolkien
The cold winter often forces me inside as I’m just not brave enough to face the rain, so a fantasy novel can take me on the wildest of adventures from the safety of my warm house. The Hobbit is the perfect cosy winter adventure! There’s nothing I’d rather do than follow Bilbo on his journey through Middle Earth when the days are dark and dull. This fantasy is sure to keep you entertained.
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower – Stephen Chbosky
I first read this book in the winter of my first year of A-Levels and fell completely in love with it and I still think it’s the perfect cosy winter read for everyone. Nothing beats a strong, emotional coming of age story that can change the life of every reader who dares to turn the pages. Despite being an emotional novel it really makes me feel good. I’d love to curl up in my warm bed whilst it’s cold outside to read this book again.
These are all really different books but I feel like they’re all perfect Cosy Winter Reads. You can pick exactly what you need from this list as each book has been chosen for their different and unique qualities to accompany your cold nights. Whether you’re looking for a fantasy adventure, a deep coming of age transformation, or just some laugh out loud fun, there’s something on my list for everyone.
