Today I’m going to be sharing an unboxing of Wildest Dreams’ May box, which was themed ‘Female Voices’. Wildest Dreams is a new book subscription box based in the UK. Each month they have a themed box which usually includes a book, tea, and something fun like a bath product or candle, and some swag. I couldn’t resist trying the box when I saw an offer on Twitter, and we all know I can’t refuse a bargain! Even though this is only my second subscription box, I just knew I’d love it because the books always positively surprise me. The ‘Female Voices’ box was no exception.
Just look how incredible the contents of the box is! I was really excited as I was pulling out all the items because they were right up my street. I had no idea what would be included with such an unusual theme but I thought the box was well thought out. This is a small and simple box with a few items but I was over the moon with all of them!
Let’s take a look at the main attraction first – the book. I had absolutely no idea what the book might be so it was a total surprise. I loved that the book came wrapped in lovely brown paper because it kept the suspense for much longer. Included in the ‘Female Voices’ box was I Stop Somewhere. I didn’t know anything about the book but I was intrigued just by reading the first sentence of the blurb. This sounds like a difficult and raw read, yet I have the feeling it will be beautiful book.
Tormented throughout middle school, Ellie begins her freshman year with a new look: she doesn’t need to be popular; she just needs to blend in with the wallpaper.
But when the unthinkable happens, Ellie finds herself trapped after a brutal assault. She wasn’t the first victim, and now she watches it happen again and again. She tries to hold on to her happier memories in order to get past the cold days, waiting for someone to find her.
The problem is, no one searches for a girl they never noticed in the first place.
The cover is also gorgeous and a lovely colour and design which draws me in even more. I can’t wait to read it as it’s totally different to my normal reads and I love powerful female voices.
The first item I pulled out of the box was a packet of handmade tea from Rosie Lea Tea. This particular tea was chosen by Holly Bourne, which is super exciting for contemporary YA fans. It’s called ‘Reset Yourself’ and is a chamomile and lemongrass tea, which is perfect for reading with a hard-hitting book or just for a little boost throughout the day. With the tea came a set of DIY tea bags so you could make your own bags of fresh tea for every cuppa! I am in love with this idea and it’s my favourite item in the box. There was also a biscuit to enjoy with it (unfortunately I’m gluten free but I know someone in my house will nab that quickly).
I am a huge soap fan and I adore bath and shower items so I was happy to pull a soap out of the box (especially as I’m currently running out – thanks Wildest Dreams!). The soap is called ‘The Rogue Dial’ and is inspired by The Bone Season. I haven’t read the book but I’ll enjoy the soap nonetheless. It’s described as ‘dusky sole and almond scented’ which sounds delicious and I love the vibrant colours.
Also included in the ‘Female Voices’ box was a huge amount of swag. I love all the extra touches included in book subscription boxes because they show a huge amount of detail and thought.
Included in the box was:
- A letter from the author, T.E. Carter
- I Stop Somewhere bookmark
- A signed book plate
- ‘It’s tough being a girl’ sticker
- ‘This is what normal looks like’ sticker
I adore letters from authors because they are so personal. It gives you an exclusive glimpse into their inspiration and writing experience which makes you feel like you have been included in the process. This particular letter was very personal and moving. I also really like the stickers as they sum up the female experience really well.
Finally, here is a picture of the ‘Female Voices’ sheet included in the box. I love it when subscription boxes include a sheet detailing what was included. It helps me take in the whole box and it’s always nice to see some extra detail about the inspiration behind each item and who made them.
It’s pretty clear that I liked this box and I’m really glad I took a chance on it. I ended up with a moving book which I can’t wait to read, as well as some really practical items which I love! I can’t wait to try the tea and use the soap. I would definitely order a Wildest Dreams box again if the theme suited my tastes. I’d recommend trying the box, especially if you find a discount code from a rep on Twitter.
